Mount St. Joseph News

The Mount celebrates National Transfer Student Week this third week of October, to build awareness of diverse student needs within transfer student populations. According to the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students, (NISTS), with more transfer students than ever before, it is important to build awareness of common transfer barriers students may face to create pathways for degree completion.

At the Mount, admission staff understands first-hand the needs of students looking to transfer to a 4-year college, demonstrating care and service to accommodate unique student needs. The Mount provides hands-on, custom admission counseling for adult and transfer students, making transferring as easy as possible.

"We are always trying to meet our transfer students where they are,” says Amy Wolf, Assistant Director for Adult and Transfer Student Recruitment. “We are a community at the Mount and we want our transfers to feel that way from day one when interacting with us. We personalize appointments to the student’s needs, and help identify transfer pathways between majors that keep transfers on track with their career goals. We help them find what they need on campus in order for them to succeed both personally and professionally."

In addition, the Mount offers several academic scholarships, grants, awards, loans, and payment plan options to assist transfer students in paying for college tuition.

As a result of its efforts, Mount St. Joseph University has also been named to Phi Theta Kappa’s 2020 Transfer Honor Roll, which recognizes excellence in responding to the needs of transfer students as they make their leap from community colleges to 4-year colleges.

Student Testimonial

Kelsey Gerde, an adult veteran transfer student, reflects on her time at the Mount:

“What surprised me most about the Mount was how easy it was to fit in with everyone. I was very nervous about going back to school and being an adult transfer, but the Mount has such a welcoming environment, I felt embraced by the community immediately. The Mount had challenged me to grow because everyone there, staff and students, push you to be your absolute best. Everyone is so supportive and wants you to succeed.”
