The Department of Creative Arts is proud to announce that Carr Smith, a senior Art Education major at Mount St. Joseph University, was recognized at the Hyde Park Art Show awards ceremony this past weekend.

Following a competitive application and interview process held last spring, Smith was selected to receive a prestigious $2,000 scholarship in recognition of outstanding artistic achievement and academic excellence.

The scholarship recognizes Smith’s accomplishments as both an emerging artist and an Art Education student. Through dedication to their artistic practice and academic work, Smith has demonstrated a strong commitment to the arts and to their future career as an art educator. Smith wrote in their essay: As an Art Education major with a Sociology minor, my academic journey is a deliberate blend of creative expertise, pedagogical theory, and a deep understanding of the social structures that influence a district like Cincinnati Public Schools. The core of my program involves intensive studio work, where I have developed technical skills across a wide range of media—from traditional drawing and painting to sculpture and digital arts. This hands-on training ensures that I enter the classroom not just as an instructor, but as a practicing artist capable of guiding students through both the technical complexities of material safety and the nuances of artistic expression.

The Hyde Park Art Show provides an opportunity to celebrate talented artists and support the next generation of artists through scholarships and recognition. Smith’s selection reflects the strength of their portfolio, academic accomplishments, and commitment to the field of art.

The Department of Creative Arts is proud to celebrate Carr’s achievement and the recognition of their hard work and dedication. Congratulations, Carr Smith, on this well-deserved honor!
