Celebrating Cindy Shibinski

cindy's retirement

Cindy Shibinski is retiring from an incredible and wonderful educational career. As she does, she leaves a legacy of service and dedication to her students and our profession.

Cindy spent over 30 years in public education before The Mount. She made a great impact on so many students and families. It was rooted in her conviction that education transforms lives, particularly for those who need it most. Crucially, Cindy made sure that every student was seen, supported, and valued.

For more than 10 years, Cindy has worked as a faculty member and a program director for the School of Education. In those roles she has helped to develop the next generation of teachers across all licensure areas. She has ensured her college students were not only prepared but grounded in their sense of purpose. Cindy is known for a relationship-based approach which can be seen in the role that she played in mentoring and developing authentic relationships with the students. Her wit and countless stories have endeared her to many students and colleagues.  Her affability and approachability speaks to her kind heart, caring nature, and her desire to help make a difference for others.  In her Human Exceptionalities course, she connected course content and civic engagement through service-learning. For her work, Cindy was awarded the prestigious Clifford Award in 2020 and The Outstanding Service-Learning faculty member in 2021.

Her colleagues say that Cindy “never turns away a student in need.” This is the essence of what she does. She embodies the spirit and culture of the MSJ mission. Cindy has been a vibrant presence on our campus. Whether serving on committees, cheering on athletic teams, or attending events, her presence only made us all better. Cindy’s career is a powerful example of what a teacher and servant leader looks like. While she will be sorely missed, her impact will be felt for years to come.
