MSJ has a lot of flexibility in their course offerings!

What is your year and major? What is your anticipated graduation year?

I will graduate in August 2025 with my bachelor’s degree in educational studies!  I plan to go straight into graduate school here at the Mount where I expect to graduate with my master’s degree in 2027!

Why did you choose the Mount?

When I decided to go back to school, I was looking for a local university that would accept my transfer credits and had a specific program for transfer education majors seeking licensure. The Mount checked all my boxes!  As I did more research into teacher prep programs in the Cincinnati area, I learned that Mount St. Joseph University’s School of Education is ranked #1 in the state of Ohio!!!

How did the Mount help accommodate your transfer needs?

The Mount made my transfer so easy!!!  I met first with Amy Wolf who gave me a campus tour and laid out all the programs and scholarships I would be eligible for.  Then Hannah Schiering helped me with all my paperwork and getting my credits transferred over.  These two ladies were phenomenal at making sure I had everything that I needed for a smooth transition process!

Are you involved in any student organizations or extracurriculars?

Not yet!

How do you manage your course load along with other obligations?

Fortunately, MSJ has a lot of flexibility in their course offerings!  When I enrolled, I was working full-time during the day.  Now I have switched to taking care of my son during the day and working at night.  The Mount offers classes during the day, in the evenings, and online that fit my busy schedule!

Are there any staff or professors you would like to credit who helped accommodate your transfer experience?

Dr. Laura Saylor worked with me to completely rework my short- and long-term plans to ensure that I could graduate and fulfill my licensure as soon as possible.  She is so wonderful and I am so grateful to have her as the Dean of Education!

Cara Dubay has also been so wonderful!  She was able to find me a practicum placement last minute when we reworked my schedule in the fall.  She has found me the perfect placements for my student teaching experiences!

Laura Saylor, Cara Dubay, and Harrison Collier all took the time to meet with the education transfer students to ensure we had everything we needed to begin our journeys at the Mount!

Describe one of your favorite memories at the Mount so far.

One of my favorite memories was the acorn ceremony with Dr. Saylor and Crystal Smith!

What advice would you give to someone looking to transfer to the Mount?

Look no further!  Set up a meeting with the lovely people in the admissions office: They will take good care of you!

What was your experience like connecting with students on campus?

I have made so many new friends on campus!  I love connecting with peers in my field and hearing how similar their experiences are to my own.  I have met so many people in similar situations as my own: coming back to school, raising children, and working full-time.  It’s tough! But we are all in this together!

Can you describe your experience with the transfer scholarships and applying for them?

I automatically received a Transfer Student Merit Scholarship because of my previous GPA.  I didn’t even have to apply, and I saved $22,000 off my tuition!

How has the Mount supported you so far?

The Mount has been so supportive of me: from admissions to faculty, everyone I have met has made it abundantly clear that they want to help me reach my goals!  My professors have been incredibly supportive; my advisors have guided me on the right paths; Dr. Saylor and Cara Dubay have set me up for long term success!

Open Response Opportunity:

I am so happy that I chose the Mount!  I have not only learned so much, but I have met some great people!  I wish I would have chosen Mount St. Joseph for all my undergrad; I am so thankful to be here now!
