Experience iconic video game soundtracks performed live by the MSJ Band, featuring projected gameplay visuals for an immersive evening of music, gaming, and storytelling on October 27.
Get ready to level up your concert experience! Mount St. Joseph University’s Band invites the campus and Greater Cincinnati community to an exciting evening of music inspired by the world of video games on Tuesday, October 27, at 7 p.m. in the University Theatre.
From adventurous soundtracks to memorable musical themes, video game music has become an important part of contemporary musical culture. The upcoming concert will celebrate the creativity, storytelling, and emotional power of music that brings virtual worlds to life. The concert will feature selections from some of the most recognizable and beloved video games, including Civilization IV, Minecraft, God of War, Skyrim, Kingdom Hearts, The Legend of Zelda, Journey, and Tetris.
Adding an exciting visual element to the performance, gameplay videos and images will be projected above the band, allowing audiences to experience the connection between the music and the video games that inspired it. MSJ students have collected gameplay footage and images, while Jonathon Wheelwright, freshmen and one of MSJ’s Presidential Scholarship awardees, is compiling the materials into a multimedia presentation designed to complement the live musical performances. This creative collaboration will transform the traditional concert experience into an immersive celebration of music, gaming, and visual storytelling.
Audiences will discover how video game composers use music to build suspense, create excitement, develop characters, and transport players into imaginative environments. Whether you are a lifelong gamer, a music enthusiast, or simply looking for an entertaining evening, this performance promises something for everyone.
The concert also highlights the versatility and talents of MSJ's student musicians, demonstrating how traditional concert band instruments can bring a modern musical genre to the stage. Join the MSJ Band for an evening where gaming meets live performance and experience familiar musical worlds in an entirely new way!
