Each year during National Nurses Week, celebrated May 6–12, communities across the country pause to recognize the extraordinary impact nurses have on the lives of patients, families, and communities. The 2026 theme, “The Power of Nurses™,” honors the dedication, expertise, and leadership nurses bring to healthcare every day, recognizing their role as advocates, healers, and trusted professionals at the center of patient care.

At the Mount, nursing is more than a profession—it is a calling grounded in service, compassion, and purpose. Through the Climb Higher: Nursing Leaders story, students and faculty share how the nursing journey prepares future healthcare professionals to lead with confidence, empathy, and excellence. Through hands-on clinical experiences, meaningful mentorship, and patient-centered learning, students are equipped to make a lasting difference in the lives of others.

At Mount St. Joseph University, the Department of Nursing continues a longstanding tradition of preparing ethical, compassionate healthcare leaders through rigorous academics and real-world clinical practice. As highlighted in the Mount’s National Nurses Week celebration, the University proudly honors nurses and future nurses across its community—from students beginning their journeys to alumni and faculty shaping healthcare through service and care. This Nurse Appreciation Week, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and compassion of those who continue to climb higher in service to others.
