Student Q&A:
1. Why did you choose the Mount?
I chose the Mount because of the people and the heart behind this community. My older brother, Anthony Wright, first brought it onto my radar, and because he’s someone I deeply admire, that mattered to me. I also wanted to continue playing soccer, but when I met Coach Rudy Argueta, it became much more than the sport. He cared about who we were becoming as men, not just as athletes, and that stood out to me. Then I met Jennifer Withrow, who truly embodies compassion and service, and confirmed for me that this was a place where I would be supported and challenged myself to grow. The Mount has taken someone who once preferred to stay in the background and develop him into someone willing to step into responsibility with courage and confidence. It feels like family here, and that sense of community is ultimately why I chose to call it home.
2. What is your major/minor/concentration and graduation year?
Major: Social Work, Minor: Psychology, Graduation Year: 2027
3. What inspired you to pursue a major in Social Work?
Service. I believe one of my gifts from God is my heart for service, so I wanted to pursue a profession centered on helping and serving others. I’ve seen firsthand how often people need support, advocacy, and someone who truly understands where they’re coming from. Social work felt like the most direct way to live out that calling and be that presence for others.
4. Are you involved in any other organizations at the Mount?
Men’s bible study (leader), mission ambassador, peer mentor, statistics tutor, played soccer here the past 3 years. I am currently working to join BSU.
5. What is your favorite part about being in the Department of Social Work?
My favorite part about being in the Department of Social Work is the close-knit community. I’ve been able to grow alongside the same individuals from freshman year to senior year, and that creates connections that will benefit me long after graduation. It’s not just about future professional relationships, but also the support systems we build here that encourage me and pushes me to grow. I also love that the people in this department share such an empathetic, loving, and kind nature. Being surrounded by others who genuinely care about people the way I do makes this experience even more meaningful.
6. Do you have an idea of what career you would like to pursue post-graduation?
First, I plan to pursue my master’s degree. After that, I hope to go into private practice, providing therapeutic services for youth.
