Mount St. Joseph University’s Studio San Giuseppe held an Artist Talk on March 1st, 2026. A selection of artists featured in the recent exhibition, Cultural Traditions & Artistic Voices, discussed their inspirations and answered questions about their work. Members of the community attended the event alongside Art & Design students, making for a wonderful turnout.
The artists focused on their careers and how they were able to make a successful livelihood out of their creative passions. The first speaker was YuLing Huang, who was a collaborator with Tom Tsuchiya in bringing the exhibition to MSJ. Yufeng Wang spoke about her process of making Chinese ink brush paintings and how she uses her art to connect with people and serve the community. She also teaches many workshops about Chinese painting techniques and even teaches classes on culinary arts. Architect John Tsuchiya discussed his upbringing and how he was always interested in technology and architecture, providing both artistic and technical sides to his life. He discussed his process of integrating generative AI into his artwork and how he created his own AI model to replicate his style. He also discussed his current job at Elevar, where he delivers innovative, practical design solutions for public and private-sector clients, focusing on creating spaces that offer lasting value and exceptional user experiences. The last speaker was Priya Rama, whom we have already written about; you can learn more here: https://www.msj.edu/news/2026/02/cultural-traditions-and-artistic-voices-the-art-of-priya-rama.html.
This event was a standout, as an artist talk is not something SSG hosts for every exhibition. Due to the longer exhibition schedule for Cultural Traditions & Artistic Voices, SSG Gallery was able to host a productive artist discussion, allowing attendees to learn about the artists’ visions and processes.
“The Cultural Traditions and Artistic Voices featuring artwork from the Creative Asian Society members is more than just an exhibition; it is a vital conversation," says Michaelann Kelley, Ed.D., Chair of the Department of Creative Arts and associate professor of Art and Design at Mount St. Joseph University. "We are honored to provide a platform for these powerful regional voices, celebrating the diverse cultural threads that enrich the Greater Cincinnati arts community.”
Mount St. Joseph University welcomes the community to join in celebrating the vibrancy and breadth of Asian artistry in our region through March 18th.
