"Don’t be afraid to walk up to people and talk to them! Most people are willing to be your friend and are nice!"

Serenity Stonom

What is your year and major?

Freshman. Pre-med/undecided.

What is your anticipated graduation year?

2028.

Why did you choose the Mount?

It was a small class sizes and it wasn’t too expensive.

Are you involved in any student organizations or extracurriculars? If so, how have these supported your academic success?

I am a part of campus activities board (CAB), lacrosse and peak productions. I would say these helped because I am required to do study tables with being a student athlete so having that structure as well as the flexibility with CAB and peak, I learn so many more different things an participate in so many events.

How do you manage your course load along with other obligations?

I take it one step at a time and make a list of what I am going to complete today and worry about the rest later.

Are there any staff or professors you would like to credit who helped accommodate your experience?

I would say Susan crane the chemistry teacher has helped me and encouraged me to get help from teachers. As well as Elijah prewitt Davis helped me realize that you can succeed if you put your mind to it and zone into the work. Without distractions of technology. And Lisa crews she helped me speak up and use my voice and that class helped me get friends at college.

Describe one of your favorite memories at the Mount so far.

When I was practicing with the wrestling team.

What advice would you give to someone looking to join the Mount community?

Don’t be afraid to walk up to people and talk to them! Most people are willing to be your friend and are nice.

What was your experience like connecting with students on campus?

It was hard at first especially because I thought I was going to join a sport and I realized you can’t really do that in college you actually have to get recruited in most cases. So, I actually had to go out and talk to people and it was hard especially because people looked mean even though they aren’t. Eventually I talked to this one person who knew everyone and introduced me and I found my people.

Can you describe your experience with the scholarships and applying for them?

I don’t really like the scholarships at this school because if you aren’t a first year knowing you want to go to this college you can’t get many scholarships. I didn’t know I was going to the mount until May first and scholarship deadlines are in March or so for incoming first year students so I would say it’s hard to get funds if you don’t apply to those scholarships beforehand.

Can you share more about your experience with making the Mount education affordable?

I couldn’t really make it more affordable to be honest but I will say to try to get a parent plus loan that’s what I did my freshman year now I just pay out of pocket and I joined peak productions which is a 500-dollar scholarship.

Anything else you want to share about your experience?

I will say it’s hard to join clubs and sports especially when you don’t know anyone it’s more like if you’re not a part of it already it’s not going to happen or it will if you know someone. It was extremely hard trying to get in contact with coaches and such. They actually don’t respond to their emails so I wouldn’t recommend trying it. But it’s not open to everyone so you have to know someone to join an organization or sport which I dislike about the mount. I also dislike how no one asks how the student like or dislike some of the regulations they give us to “protect us” or to save money without thinking how it may affect some students.
