The British accent and stylish shoes may set her apart on campus, but behind those attributes, you’ll find Maisie Elston to be a rising coach and leader.
When she was not recruiting student-athletes this past summer, she was representing the University internationally as an assistant coach for the Great Britain women’s basketball team that competed in the U20 EuroBasket tournament in Miskolc, Hungary. This position came naturally to Maisie as she was also a member of past U18 and U20 Great Britain teams where she competed on an international level as a player.
Coach Elston is in her fourth season at MSJ and was recently tabbed as the athletic department's Senior Woman Administrator. Elston quickly changed the culture of the Mount women’s basketball program from a struggling team to a contender for the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference title, finishing second in the league in 2024 and 2025, with the results of this season still pending!
In addition to Maisie’s success on the court, she has also quickly integrated herself into the Mount by launching the Coaching Over Coffee Series, which has been a huge success. The program gives a space for women from all departments at the University to gather monthly to brainstorm ideas, discuss work-life balance, and connect. Maisie also serves on the Culture of Care and Belonging Committee and has taught multiple classes, including First Year Experience, Fundamentals of Personal Fitness, Individualized Exercise, and Advanced Strength Training.
Please help me congratulate Coach Elston – January’s “Pride of the Lions!”
Sincerely,
H. James. Williams, Ph.D.
