Briar Herbert – Computer Science and Social Computing Double Major, Graphic Design Minor

Briar Herbert is currently a sophomore at Mount St. Joseph University. She is a double major in Computer Science and Social Computing and minoring in Graphic Design. She also participates in the state-of-the-art cITe program. The cITe program, short for Center for IT Engagement, offers students affordable education, paid co-ops, cohort-based learning, and the opportunity to graduate with a dual major.

1. Why did you choose the Mount?

I chose the mount because I liked the fact that it was a smaller campus and everyone I met or spoke to was so welcoming and kind.

 

2. What are your majors and graduation year?

I am majoring in computer science and social computing, with a minor in graphic design. I am planning to graduate in May of 2026.

 

3. What inspired you to pursue Social Computing and your other major?

I had already made a decision that I wanted to major in computer science, but when I heard of the cITe program and the opportunities it would allow me to have, I knew that learning the social computing aspect would be very beneficial to my future.

 

4. What is your favorite part about being in the cITe program?

One of my favorite parts of the cITe program has been the friendships I have made with others who are also in the program. There are so many opportunities to be a part of projects and work studies with your peers and build on those relationships.

 

5. What has been your favorite project you’ve worked on so far?

My favorite project I have worked on so far has been an AI work-study where we are developing an educational AI chatbot for MSJ students.

 

6. Do you have an idea of what career you would like to pursue post-graduation?

I would love to pursue a career involving website development or system analysis.
