In celebration of a star athlete, Fox19.com created a video feature about Mount St. Joseph University's sophomore, Cornell Beachem Jr.

A two-sport sophomore standout, Cornell Beachem Jr. of MSJ Wrestling and MSJ Lions Football has recently been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) Male Athlete of the Year, the first time in history that Mount St. Joseph University has won this prestigious award. He scored the most touchdowns and takedowns in Mount football history, a first ever Conference Athlete of the Year.

For his wrestling accomplishments, Beachem was named the No. 1 seed at the NCAA DIII National Wrestling Championships, and was poised to become the first athlete in the history of Mount St. Joseph University to earn the title of National Champion in any sport. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic his wrestling season was cut short just prior to getting the NCAA Championships underway. Due to his outstanding body of work for the season, he was still named a first-team All-America selection by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA).

“It means a lot because I know the work ethic I have put in for wrestling and football to achieve the goals that I was trying to achieve,” Beachem tells Fox19. “My goal for football is to get 3000 all-purpose yards, and atleast 30 touchdowns in one year.”
