This year’s theme is “Addressing Health Disparities” in the Greater Cincinnati Community. Poverty, race, ethnicity, and disparities in education and employment are leading indicators of diminished health care access and health outcomes. Cincinnati ranks 6th in the nation in child poverty with 39 percent of our children living in families at or below the Federal Poverty Level as of 2015 (U.S. Census Bureau). Health starts long before illness—where we live, learn, work, and play. In order to improve health outcomes, lower costs and improve access, the Tri-state region must examine and address the fundamental factors influencing health disparities.
