Mount St. Joseph University’s commitment to early literacy was recently featured on Local 12 News in a report highlighting Project Ready, an initiative helping prepare Cincinnati-area children for kindergarten and future success in school.

The report showcased Holy Family School in East Price Hill, where educators have implemented Project Ready for eight years. Led by MSJ’s Center for Reading Science, the program uses evidence-based literacy instruction to help children develop foundational skills, including letter recognition, letter sounds, rhyming, and syllable awareness.

At Holy Family School, teachers have seen students make meaningful progress throughout the school year, developing skills that prepare them to become successful readers. Beyond literacy, the program helps children build confidence and imagine new possibilities for their futures.

Project Ready reflects the Center for Reading Science’s commitment to bridging research and classroom practice. By equipping educators with effective instructional resources, MSJ helps schools strengthen early literacy development and give children a stronger foundation for academic success.
