Welcome Back, Lions!
There is nothing quite like the moment our students return to campus. The energy changes. The sidewalks fill. Classrooms come alive – and suddenly – the Mount feels like the Mount again.
Welcome home, Lions!
You are walking on a campus that has changed in some exciting ways. Over the summer, we have been hard at work creating new and enhanced spaces for studying, connecting, recharging, and simply enjoying being part of this community.
The newly renovated Seton Commons is now open, with study rooms, computer access, comfortable lounge areas, and a kitchen café. The “Den,” our brand-new game room, gives you another place to gather and have some fun. You’ll also find new homes for “The Roar Store” and the Department of Public Safety, and a refreshed dining experience at “The Lion’s Table, presented by Fifth Third Bank.”

Step outside and you’ll see even more. Our beautiful Japanese Garden renovation is complete, and the new firepit in the Quad is ready for conversations, friendships, and evenings together.

But what excites me most isn’t any one new space. It’s what all of this represents.
We want the Mount to be a place where you feel connected—to your professors, to one another, and to opportunities that help you grow, pursue your goals, and prepare for what comes next. That happens in our classrooms and labs, but it also happens through organizations, athletics, performances, arts events, service activities, over a meal, or in a conversation with someone you might not otherwise have met.
That is the Mount experience, and this year, I hope you make it your own. We’re starting with plenty of opportunities to do just that.
Join us for Game Day at Joe’s, at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, September 13th, in “Joe Lion’s Grille,” as the Bengals take on the Buccaneers. The kitchen will open at 12:30 p.m., with themed food. The first 50 students in attendance will receive free drink tickets, and there will be opportunities to win prizes throughout the game.
You should also keep an ear out for something brand new from our Career and Experiential Education Center— Main Character Energy, a new podcast created for real conversations about college, careers, confidence, and figuring out what comes next. New episodes launch every Wednesday, beginning August 26th, and will be available on Podbean and wherever you get your Podcasts. The new logo for Main Character Energy is attached, to make it easier for you to find.
So as this year begins, find your place here. Try something new. Go to the game or the performance. Join an organization. Introduce yourself to someone. Find your favorite place to study or work together. Spend an evening around the firepit. And take advantage of opportunities you may not even know exist yet.
Whether you are beginning your first semester at the Mount, returning to continue your journey, or working toward an advanced degree, you are an important part of this community and of what makes this campus come alive.
This is your campus! This is your community! This is your year! Make it count!
Welcome back, Lions; let’s make it an extraordinary year!
Sincerely,
H. James Williams, Ph.D.
President
