Please join me in congratulating Dr. Darla Vale, Dean of the School of Health Sciences, for her recognition as “The Pride of the Lions,” for the Month of June!!  Darla Vale, joined the Mount community in 1983, shortly after completing the Master of Nursing degree. She competed the Ph.D., with a focus on critical care nursing, in 1997.

While she began her MSJ career on the Nursing Faculty, she has, since, served in a number of administrative roles, including as Chairperson of the Department of Nursing, Chairperson of the Department of Health Sciences, Dean of Adult and Graduate Studies, and Interim Dean of Education. In these leadership roles, Darla has supported the development of many of the University’s Academic programs: the “MBA 4+1” Program; MAGELIN; MSN; DNP in Nursing; the Master of Physician Assistant Studies; the Master of Speech-Language Pathology, launching this fall, the Master of Social Work!!

In addition, Darla has worked with her teams to secure numerous grants, including eight federal HRSA grants and five grants from the Ohio Board of Nursing.

Darla has been an exemplary member of the Mount community. She has loved working at the Mount and appreciates her opportunities to develop in various leadership positions. She has mentored many faculty and staff members, leading with grace and setting high, but achievable, expectations. Her ability to work across disciplines, envision new possibilities, and move from concept to implementation—all with a collegial spirit and positive attitude—makes her the embodiment of the “Pride of the Lions.”

Again, please join me in congratulating Dr. Darla Vale, Dean of the School of Health Sciences, for her recognition as “The Pride of the Lions,” for the Month of June!

Sincerely,

H. James Williams, Ph.D.
