Mount St. Joseph University mourns the loss of Liz Bonis, a beloved health anchor and reporter at Local 12 who dedicated her career to sharing community stories and health news with compassion and expertise, often featuring members of the Mount Community on set to highlight the institution's local healthcare impact.

After a long battle with colon cancer, sadly she passed away Thursday evening, April 30, 2026.

Her deep connection to the Mount allowed for years of collaboration as she brought the MSJ faculty and student expertise into the living rooms of the local community. She frequently featured the Mount on set for segments such as "What's Happening in Health" and served as the MC for the LNAP nursing awards. She became a trusted collaborator who helped elevate the Mount's mission.

"Liz was more than a health reporter to us—she was a friend of the Mount," says Dean of Health Sciences, Darla Vale, Ph.D. "Through her work, she championed our faculty and students, faithfully emceed our Nursing Leadership Ceremony, and shared her love for MSJ and our mission. She lived her faith every day, and her light was evident in all she did. Her loss is profound, and she will be truly and dearly missed."

Today, Mount St. Joseph University expresses its deepest gratitude for Liz's thoughtful partnership and the platform she provided to our students and educators over the years. Her legacy of service and presence on set will be profoundly missed, but her impact on the Mount Community remains in our hearts.
