On March 1, 2026, Mount St. Joseph University welcomed members of the LPGA Amateurs Cincinnati chapter for a special social event that blended community, sport, and the arts. LPGA members and guests joined MSJ Creative Arts faculty and students for an afternoon of conversation, creativity, and connection.

The event began with a social gathering and light lunch, offering attendees an opportunity to meet one another and explore the current exhibition, Cultural Traditions and Artistic Voices. Shannon Kelley, LPGA Amateurs Membership chair, served as master of ceremonies. She opened the formal program by welcoming guests and thanking Dr. Michaelann Kelley and MSJ for collaborating and sponsoring the event. She described the wide range of LPGA Amateurs Cincinnati activities available, noting that the club manages 15 golf leagues and hosts over 10 social events annually. The gathering at MSJ, she explained, exemplified the chapter’s commitment to offering diverse and enriching venues for its members.

Kelley then introduced Cincinnati-based sculptor Tom Tsuchiya, the afternoon’s featured speaker. Tsuchiya, whose work is widely recognized both locally and nationally, shared insights into his artistic process and career. His portfolio includes commissions for the Cincinnati Reds, the NFL, the Cincinnati Zoo, Mount St. Joseph University, and Xavier University, among others. He spoke about the challenges and rewards of public art and described his latest commission: a statue of President Ulysses S. Grant to be unveiled in Bethel, Ohio, in October 2026. Tsuchiya also highlighted the collaborative nature of his studio practice, noting that he works with three apprentices, including a graduate of MSJ’s fine art program.

The presentation was followed by dessert, a raffle, and closing remarks. Attendees expressed appreciation for the opportunity to engage with both the university community and a professional artist. Several LPGA members shared how the organization has enriched their lives. Kelly Becker, who spent several years teaching in Thailand and away from golf, said she sought a more structured organization upon her return. As a younger member, she values the inclusiveness of LPGA Amateurs, which welcomes women of all ages. Megan Shelley, who golfed in high school, joined the chapter to reconnect with the sport in a supportive group setting. Lisa Lucas, a golfer since age 12 with a background in art, found Tsuchiya’s presentation especially meaningful and enthusiastically recommends the organization to women seeking a welcoming and friendly golfing community.

The afternoon reflected the spirit of collaboration between MSJ and the greater Cincinnati community, bringing together athletics, art, and fellowship in a setting designed to inspire.
