Biography:
Born in the Republic of Korea, Dr. Min Hwa Kim earned her Master’s and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in violin performance from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), studying under Dr. Piotr Milewski and Professor Kurt Sassmannshaus. She was awarded the prestigious Starling Scholarship at CCM, won both the scholarship and concerto competitions at Ewha Womans University, and received top prizes in national competitions in Korea.
As a performer, Dr. Kim has appeared as soloist with the Korean National Symphony Orchestra and the Ewha Womans University Orchestra, and has given recitals at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts and other venues. She is the founder of the Ammigus String Quartet and has performed as a section violinist with the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra, Richmond Philharmonic, and Dayton Philharmonic.
Dr. Kim currently serves on the faculty at Mount Saint Joseph University, where she teaches violin and viola to undergraduate and graduate students and instructs String Method and Skills for undergraduates. Her students have earned major scholarships, won concerto competitions, and secured professional positions as orchestra directors and private instructors. She also established a string festival program at Mount Saint Joseph University for students ranging from kindergarten through high school.
Through her dual career as performer and educator, Dr. Kim continues to inspire and mentor the next generation of musicians.
