Will my associate’s degree in criminal justice transfer to the criminology program?

Yes, credits from many colleges’ criminal justice programs will transfer to Mount St. Joseph University.  We must receive an official transcript(s) from the college(s) you attended indicating the courses that you took. Please contact our transcript analyst at (513) 244-4228 to find out more.

What is the difference between criminology and criminal justice?

While some colleges do not distinguish between criminology and criminal justice, Mount St Joseph University does.  A traditional criminal justice program focuses on the systemic and policy characteristics of the field, including education on real-world applications in police, court, and correctional institutions.  In comparison, criminology focuses on the behavioral aspects of crime, seeking to explore the origins of criminal behavior and how society responds to crime. The College of Mount St. Joseph, in accordance with the standards set forth by the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), includes study of all recognized components of the discipline.
