A noted scholar, professor and academic leader, H. James Williams, Ph.D., was named the president of Mount St. Joseph University in March 2016.
He previously served as president of Fisk University and as business dean and professor of accounting at various institutions, including the University of Notre Dame and Georgetown University.
Williams’s research has been widely published in journals, including Accounting and Finance, Issues in Accounting Education, and The Journal of Accountancy. He has received recognition for his outstanding teaching at Georgetown University, in addition to having received the Michigan Chronicle’s “Men of Excellence” award and the HBCU’s “Annual Living Legends” award. Currently, Dr. Williams serves on several boards, including the Community Health Systems, Inc. and the Dan Beard Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He also serves on the Education Advisory Council of the National Museum of African American Music and is a member of The Cincinnatus Association.
Williams holds a Ph.D. in accounting (University of Georgia), an M.B.A. in accounting (University of Wisconsin), a B.S. in accounting (North Carolina Central University), and two law degrees (Georgetown University Law Center). He previously worked in the public accounting and legal professions as a CPA, and as a corporate and tax attorney.
He is married to Carole Campbell Williams. The Williamses have two young-adult children.
