Counseling Services

  What is counseling?

The college experience is an exciting and often stressful experience.  Students are often balancing academic demands with other life roles.

Students who are new to campus are adjusting to living in a new environment, new friends and academic pressures.  Other students are attending college with a pre-existing mental health condition.

Counselors and Social Workers are available to assist you with the adjustment to college, relationship difficulties and developing skills to manage mental health symptoms that interfere with your academic, social or work functioning.

Counselors and Social Workers provide a confidential, non-judgmental environment to assist you to increase self-understanding, learn healthy ways express and manage difficult emotions, access on and off campus resources, and learn and practice skills to support the change you are seeking.

  How do I get started?

Please complete the New Client Paperwork form and the CCAPS assessment here to begin the process.  It should take about 15 minutes to complete the paperwork.

  COVID-19 Policy
Seton Residence Hall COVID-19 Isolation Policy (September 1, 2023)

Mount Residential Students,

On May 11, 2023, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services declared the end of the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency (PHE).  This led the Mount to end its global COVID-19 policy for all of campus and, instead, continue to expect all students, faculty, and staff to take responsibility for their health and follow the CDC Isolation Guidance if they test positive for COVID-19.  Fortunately, COVID-19 illness, hospitalization and death rates remain low regionally and nationwide.  Still, colleges and universities, particularly their communal living spaces, pose a unique risk when it comes to COVID-19.  (See attached information from the American College Health Association).

With the launch of the 2023-2024 academic year at the Mount this week, there have been multiple reports of residential students testing positive for COVID-19.  Seton Residence Hall is at capacity, with limited available space for students who test positive for COVID-19 to isolate away from others.  In order to keep all students living in Seton Residence Hall safe and healthy, and consistent with the terms of the Mount Student Handbook and the 2023-2024 Housing Contract, the Mount is providing you with notice of the Seton Residence Hall COVID-19 Isolation Policy, which is effective immediately, as follows:

Symptoms, Testing, and Reporting:  Any Mount residential student who experiences any symptoms of COVID-19 must immediately take an over-the-counter COVID-19 test (available at local grocery and drug stores for approximately $10) or schedule an appointment with the Wellness Center to be tested on campus.  Positive test results must be immediately reported to the Wellness Center by contacting  513.244.4949 or Wellness.Center@msj.edu.  All Mount residential students who test positive for COVID-19 will be required to follow the CDC guidelines for isolation.

Isolation:  Residential students who live in the Greater Cincinnati region are required to immediately vacate Seton Residence Hall and return to their primary residence for the entirety of their isolation period and until all of their symptoms resolve.  Residential students who must isolate, have available transportation, and have a primary residence that is outside of Greater Cincinnati but within a drivable distance from the Mount’s campus are also required to immediately vacate Seton Residence Hall and return to their primary residence for the entirety of their isolation period and until all of their symptoms resolve.   Any residential student who is unable isolate at their primary residence due to transportation or distance must immediately contact Dean of Students, Janet Cox, at 513.244.4466 to develop an isolation plan.

Return to Campus After Isolation:  After the isolation period ends and no symptoms of COVID-19 are present, a residential student must contact the Wellness Center at 513.244.4949 or Wellness.Center@msj.edu to be cleared to return to campus and Seton Residence Hall.  Once a residential student is cleared to return to campus, the student must continue to follow the CDC requirements for post-isolation masking.

Vaccination Recommendation:  Consistent with CDC and ACHA guidelines, residential students are encouraged to get one or more dose of the mRNA bivalent vaccine.

Questions about the Seton Residence Hall COVID-19 Isolation Policy should be directed to the Wellness Center at 513.244.4949 or Wellness.Center@msj.edu.
