Congratulations to Katrina Polikoff, a May 2017 Doctor of Physical Therapy graduate! Polikoff received the Juzo® Scholarship for the Norton School of Lymphedema Therapy, where she will be pursing further training as a certified lymphedema therapist. Such a certification will allow her to treat pathological issues that impact the lymphatic system.

Polikoff chose to pursue certification in the field of lymphedema after taking an elective course followed by a clinical that focused on lymphedema. Her clinical instructor was certified in the field and encouraged Polikoff to apply for the scholarship. “After seeing the visible benefits and impact the treatment provided for patients, I quickly decided that I wanted this to be part of my future as a clinician and applied for the scholarship,” Polikoff says.

After graduation, Polikoff plans to establish a career in a hospital setting that will allow her to serve in both the inpatient and outpatient care. With her lymphedema certification, she wants to raise awareness regarding lymphedema, and she hopes to someday become an adjunct faculty member and clinical instructor.

From her time at the Mount, Polikoff has gained numerous things. “My time here has given me the preparation and resources to begin my career as a physical therapist,” she says. “The Mount’s DPT program is both challenging and rewarding, and I am grateful for the experiences I have had during my time here.”

Congratulations, once again, Katrina!
