Mount St. Joseph University’s Kristina Brodbeck, M.A., adjunct instructor of English, recently had her collection of poems titled “Play” published by Finishing Line Press. The poems portray Brodbeck’s journey of witnessing her mother’s battle with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
“In her first book, Brodbeck proves exceedingly capable of evoking the life-unraveling disease of Alzheimer’s, in which her poems confront a haunting spirit of memory,” said Jeffrey Hillard, M.F.A., professor of English, “They are blunt, wise, raucous, sometimes darkly-humorous, and profoundly moving poems.”
Brodbeck graduated from the Mount in 2013 with a B.A. in English and a minor in history. She also holds an M.A. from Northern Kentucky University. Currently, she teaches English composition and literature at the Mount, Cincinnati State Technical and Community College, and Northern Kentucky University. In 2017, the Mount named her Adjunct Instructor of the Year. Her poetry has been published in The Cape Rock, For a Better World 2017 and 2018, Calliope, and the Oddville Press.
