Mount St. Joseph University

‘Notes of Gratitude’ concert to honor alumna’s education, career in music

Academics, Alumni & Giving, Press Releases

All are welcome to join the Mount St. Joseph University community for a special concert on Sunday, March 19, 2 p.m. in Mater Dei Chapel. Held to honor the feast day of St. Joseph (March 20), the patron saint of the Mount, “Notes of Gratitude” is a free concert in honor of an alum’s love of music and place. Mary Sue O’Connor Thompson, a 1955 graduate, generously donated a grand piano to the Mount in praise of the education she received as a student. A music major, Thompson spent most of her adult life as a piano teacher in Lexington, Kentucky.

The concert will include such selections as “Wedding Day at Troldhaugen” and “Ashes to Ashes” will be played by Mount students, faculty and other community members. The piano resides in the Mater Dei Chapel, an exquisite place of worship that holds beautifully crafted pieces by former Mount art faculty and students. A small reception will be held after the event.
