S. Jean Patrice served as the president of the Mount from 1977 until 1987. During her tenure, she built the strong and solid foundation that has enabled the Mount to become the university it is today. Throughout a long and noteworthy ministry and career devoted to educational opportunity, Sister Jean Patrice Harrington, S.C., Ph.D., has been widely recognized as a leader and a visionary as college president, civic leader, board chair, community advocate, and a member of the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati. In each of these roles, she demonstrated a belief in the potential of students and a commitment to open educational opportunity to students of all ages regardless of their background.  As a college president, Sister Jean Patrice advanced the mission of the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, Ohio, to serve a broad audience of adults and students underserved in higher education.  She developed mentoring partnerships between the community and high school students at risk as the first executive director of the Cincinnati Youth Collaborative; and worked to open doors of opportunity for students as chair of the Miami University (Ohio) Board of Trustees and as interim president of Cincinnati State and Technical College. She is also widely regarded as a role model for women serving on business and civic boards.

As an alumna and a fearless leader, S. Jean Patrice was loved and honored by everyone fortunate enough to have known her. If you have a story about S. Jean Patrice that you would like to share with the Sisters, you can send an email to S. Georgia Kitt at or send an email to
