Leanne Reichert admits her final writing assignment as an undergraduate at Mount St. Joseph University has been the hardest. “It was hard to put down everything into a four minute speech,” she said, “but once I got started, the ideas came to me.”

Reichert, a Knowlton Scholar who will receive her bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) during the Mount’s afternoon undergraduate commencement ceremony, was selected to give the student address. “I will be talking about how my education didn’t just prepare me to be a good nurse, but provided the foundation to be a well-rounded, good person.”

Reichert is one of more than 400 undergraduate and graduate students who will walk in Commencement ceremonies at Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday, May 9, 2015 in the Jean Patrice Harrington, SC, Student Center. This marks the 95th Commencement of the Mount, but the first as a university. This year’s ceremony for graduate students also marks the first graduating students in the Mount’s MSN (master of science in nursing) and DNP (doctor of nursing practice) programs.

The morning graduation ceremony for graduate and non-traditional students begins at 10 a.m. Paula Gonzalez, SC, an internationally known environmentalist and Sister of Charity, will give the Commencement address. Whittney Brady, a DNP candidate and the Distinguished Student award winner, will give the student address on defining moments in one’s life. Brady, also the director of the nursing NICU at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, lives with her family in Milford.

The afternoon graduation ceremony for undergraduate students begins at 2:30 p.m. with a Commencement address by Dave Dougherty, founder and CEO of Education at Work. Both Dougherty and Gonzalez will receive a Doctor of Humane Letters honorary degree. Previous commencement speakers include Neil Armstrong, Bob Castellini, Mike Schueler, and Craig Hockenberry.

Mount St. Joseph University is an undergraduate and graduate Catholic university that provides an interdisciplinary liberal arts and professional curriculum emphasizing values, service and social responsibility.
