Mount St. Joseph University is expanding its School of Health Sciences with a developing Physician Assistant (PA) program, and according to The Wall Street Journal, it's right on trend.

PA ranked number one among the Top 20 Jobs for Millennials in a recent article of The Wall Street Journal. The findings were based off a report from Young Invincibles, an advocacy group for young Americans. Their research came up with a list of the best jobs for new graduates by studying three components: median salary, share of occupation that is under age 35, and projected employment growth. Physician Assistant not only topped the list with a projected 38% growth by 2022 but also had a median income of $90,930.

The Mount has been approved to develop a PA program with initial enrollment proposed for the 2017-18 academic year. The approval was granted by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant. Once students are enrolled in the program, the Mount will be the only university within 60 miles of the Cincinnati region to offer the graduate degree.

The Mount has a long track record of health profession career options, including its Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, athletic training and undergraduate and graduate nursing programs. Adding the PA program will expand the options of the School of Health Sciences, preparing its graduates to better serve the needs of the community and the medically underserved.

The application is scheduled for review at the March 2017 ARC-PA meeting. Mount St. Joseph anticipates accepting applications for its first PA class in late 2017, pending achieving Provisional Accreditation.
