As a staff chaplain in the Heart Institute at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Mary Ann Hegner provides spiritual and emotional support to patients, families and staff.

Hegner graduated from the Mount in 2009 with a master’s degree in Religious Studies. She initially chose the Mount’s Religious Studies graduate program because of its flexibility but also found the program’s strengths to be its excellent faculty and personal touch, adding that smaller class sizes allow for the formation of community.

“The most important thing I learned at the Mount was how to reflect theologically,” she says. “I learned to ask, ‘Where is God in this situation?’ The courses in the Religious Studies program present many opportunities for theological reflection.”
