Kurtis Remmel graduated in 2008 from the Mount with degrees in mathematics and chemistry. He also met his wife Jessica Schubert Remmel ’07 during his time here. However, his connection with the Mount did not end there. Kurtis continues to live out the Legacy of Lion in his everyday life.
Kurtis is a chemical engineer and a part owner of a local microbrewery, West Side Brewing. In the spring of 2015, he took advantage of one of the many Mount alumni benefits and audited the Beer Brewing and Appreciation (BRW 101) class, where he learned the brewing process and ingredients used to make beer. He currently works with the BRW 101 class to brew a student-designed recipe at West Side Brewing. This year’s brew was featured at the Homecoming Tailgate held on October 5.
When asked about his favorite memory of the Mount Kurtis said, “My most enjoyable times at the Mount were spent being social with friends in the common spaces. The chemistry group was a pretty small group and the professors were very personable, making them easily approachable.”
Kurtis is now able to share the community of the Mount with his three daughters, who enjoy the Community Trick or Treat event hosted annually. He said his family lives close to the Mount and the girls comment every time they drive by "that's where mommy and daddy met!" We certainly hope they are future Lions in the making.
Congratulations, Kurtis, and we hope you continue to live out the #LegacyOfALion mantra in everything you do! If you know someone who is living out the mission of the Mount beyond college, let us know! Nominate them to be featured as our next #LegacyOfALion by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
