Beth Belknap Brann’s design students from the College of Mount St. Joseph have left their mark on the west side over the years. Last year, several of her students worked on many of the pieces that line the hallways, waiting areas and patient rooms at the new Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Green Township campus. This year, some of the Mount’s design students created the new logo for the Delhi Business Association (DBA).
On Wednesday, February 12, two senior graphic design students, Alyssa Seiler and Cecilia Koloc, unveiled the new logo they created with input from DBA members at the organization’s monthly meeting. Members from the Delhi Business Association as well as Mount faculty and staff also attended.
“Our students embraced this project from September when they started working on it,” said Brann, chair of the Mount’s graphic design department. “Logo work is highly creative, competitive and a key factor in marketing for businesses that requires attention to detail and understanding the vision of their clients.”
Seiler, of Colerain, and Koloc, of White Oak, spent fall semester creating different versions of the logo, meeting with DBA members several times to learn about the organization’s goal and what message they wanted the logo to convey. They selected colors that didn’t conflict with those of local schools and came up with a final logo that will be used on DBA correspondence, business cards and other marketing materials.
“We wanted the logo to signify progress and stability,” said Russ Brown, president of the Delhi Business Association. “I think when members of our community see the finished product, they’ll understand the significance.”
“This really prepared us for our careers in graphic design,” said Koloc. “I learned how to communicate with a real client to ask the right questions to get the information I needed. Everything, from the design to the colors to the font, was selected with thoughtful consideration and approval from the Delhi Business Association.”
Now that the logo work is complete, students in the Mount’s business division will create a marketing plan for the DBA.
The Delhi Business Association was organized in 1989 and is made up of people representing and/or owning a business in a professional practice in Delhi Township.
The College of Mount St. Joseph is an undergraduate and graduate Catholic college that provides an interdisciplinary liberal arts and professional curriculum emphasizing values, service and social responsibility.
