Mount head football coach Rod Huber earned accolades off the field at the American Football Coaches Convention in Indianapolis on January 13, 2014.

Huber received the "Meritorious Service Award" which recognized his efforts for raising more than $8,000 for a shoe distribution held at Padua Academy in Indianapolis. At the event, members of the all-HCAC (Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) football team washed the feet of 250 kids from Padua Academy and put new shoes on them.

"I've been a coach for more than 30 years now and this was one of the most moving events I've seen," said Huber. "These kids really appreciated this. Washing their feet teaches our student-athletes to serve others. The school (Padua Academy) teaches kids English and one of the students said in Spanish that this was the best day of her life."

Huber got involved with Samaritan's Feet after a mission trip to Africa a few years ago.

Four Mount players washed the children's feet and fitted them for new shoes. Brandon Keller (Atlanta, Georgia), Sam Fowler (Northwest), Shane Kelly (Turpin), and Leonard Riston (Withrow) took part in the event.
