Alumni Create New Memories at Reunion Weekend 2014

Alumni & Giving

Sometimes it’s nice to remember where you came from and where you’ve been and the Mount offered just this opportunity for many of its alumni over the summer.

On June 6-8, the Mount welcomed home the classes of 1964, 1969, 1974, 1979, and 1984, and Royal Mounties for Reunion Weekend 2014. Over the course of the weekend close to 200 guests attended the activities, coming from all over the country. Many guests stayed in the dorms, including a large group from the 1954 nursing class, who shared a slide show of many years of past reunions and get togethers on Saturday.

There were many activities held both at the Mount and offsite that offered alumni the chance to catch up with each other and reminisce about the good old days. On Friday, June 6, the class of 1964 held a gathering at the Studio San Giuseppe Art Gallery on campus, while the class of 1969 held their gathering at Kathy Fogarty Heekin’s home.  The class of 1979 took in a Reds game together.

On Saturday, June 7, the Mount held the Alumni Convocation in Mater Dei Chapel, where deceased alumni were remembered and several awards were given to alumni. Susanne M. Bookser ’71 and Mary Lou Grimshaw Hausman ’64 both received the Sister Mary Lea Human Service Award for service to their communities. Kathleen O’Connell, Ph.D. ’69 was awarded the Alumni Career Achievement Award and Jean Zimmerman Kotzbauer ’64 received the Loretta Richards Distinguished Alumni Award, recognizing career achievements and service to the College.. Following the Convocation, the alumni were treated to a luncheon in the dining hall.

Saturday afternoon also saw tours of the Motherhouse, or more fondly remembered as the “Old Mount” by many of the alumni, and also of the college campus.

On Saturday evening the class of 1964 celebrated their 50th Golden Anniversary with a dinner, presenting the Mount with over $20,000 for the Golden Anniversary Scholarship in honor of this occasion.  , The other classes gathered again, including an outing to Mitchell’s Fish Market at Newport on the Levee for the class of 1974.

Events concluded on Sunday with a family brunch.

Members of the classes of 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004 and 2009 will have an opportunity to celebrate at Homecoming.  Next year’s Reunion Weekend will be held on June 5-7 and will honor the classes of 1965, 1970, 1975 and 1980, as well as Royal Mounties.  Watch for further details!
