Ms. Poynter is an assistant professor in the Mount's Department of Music. She received M.Ed. in Supervision and Curriculum in 1978 and a B.M. in 1970 from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio. Since that time she has earned over 45 post-masters hours in the areas of supervision, curriculum and education.

During her 30-year career as an educator, she was employed in Hamilton City Schools in Hamilton, Ohio, and in Oak Hills Local Schools in Cincinnati, Ohio. While employed in these districts she instructed students in grades one through six in general music, vocal music, beginning band, and an extracurricular show choir as well as students in grades seven through nine in general music, vocal music, and show choir. Several of the groups under her direction have performed at Kid’s Fest, Tall Stacks, Ohio State University, and Walt Disney World.
