The College of Mount St. Joseph strives to provide programs for recreation and intercollegiate athletics that promote the character development of participants, to enhance the integrity of higher education and to promote civility in society.
Student athletes, coaches, and all others associated with these athletics programs and events should adhere to such fundamental values as respect, fairness, civility, honesty, and responsibility. These values should be manifested not only in athletics participation, but also in the broad spectrum of activities affecting the athletics and recreation program. The athletics and recreation programs also follow the federal and state regulations for gender equity as outlined in Title IX of the 1972 Education Amendments and the Equity in Athletics Disclosure Act.
The College is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and competes in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC). The College sponsors team sports: basketball, cross-country, softball, tennis, track and field, golf, soccer and volleyball, cheerleading and dance team for women; and baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, lacrosse, tennis, track and field, and wrestling for men.
The College recreation program offers intramural leagues for co-ed volleyball, co-ed basketball, co-ed softball, aerobics, racquetball, tennis, indoor soccer and other special events scheduled throughout the school year for the College community.
Students participating in athletics and recreation are expected to follow the “Principles of Sportsmanship” and live within the principles of fair play. Discipline is a possibility from violations of these principles and code of conduct.
