Overview of Student Computing Program for 2009-2010 School Year
The Mount strongly recommends that every student have a notebook computer that can access the Mount’s campus-wide wireless data network. Notebook computers are used inside and outside of the classroom to help effectively prepare students for their chosen profession and for a lifetime of learning. Students have the ability to do on-line research, homework assignments and print from anywhere on campus using their notebook computer.
Students may either bring their personally owned notebook computer to campus or purchase a notebook computer that is recommended by the Mount. Personally owned notebook computers must meet minimum hardware and software specifications in order to connect to the Mount’s wireless data network. Please visit our Non-Mount Purchased Notebook Guideline page to review the current minimum hardware and software specifications for Window-based computers and Apple MAC based computers.
Each year the Mount researches numerous notebook computers for use by our faculty and staff. The Mount negotiates price discounts on these notebook computers, on software, on extended warranty and on accidental damage insurance. The Mount then makes arrangements for students to also purchase these notebook computers directly from the manufacturer or from an authorized reseller. The Mount passes all price discounts on to students and does not profit from the sale of any notebook computer. Notebook computers recommended by the Mount receive full on-campus hardware and software support, including the use of loaner notebook computers.
The Mount offers two notebook options for purchase at educational pricing. Detailed notebook computer configurations and prices are updated on the Mount’s web site in April of every year. Notebook computers recommended by the Mount typically come with a four-year warranty. Warranties and Accidental Damage Insurance policies are offered directly from the manufacturer and its authorized subcontractors and not through the College of Mount St. Joseph.
