Congratulations and welcome! We are excited about your arrival and look forward to helping you quickly integrate into life at
the Mount.
One of the unique opportunities you will have during your Welcome Weekend is participating in the Service Event held on Saturday morning, August 23rd from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This has always been a popular event and one that you will not want to miss! And we guarantee you’ll be back in time for the evening fun. Once you have had a chance to decide, please return the response form by Thursday, August 9th to secure your spot. We will do our best to make sure that you get your first choice. Below are photos and comments from freshmen and faculty who attended last year's event:
In addition to being a great way to get to know other students, faculty and staff, this event will give you a taste of what the Mount’s Service Learning program is all about. We have designed some fun service projects with some of our local community agencies—please look over the list on the registration form and decide which types of projects or activities you would enjoy doing.
The Mount will provide lunch and transportation to the service sites. I hope you will take advantage of this great event and the chance to get to know other new students!
Blessings,

Some of the positive aspects of attending Beechwood Home were getting to meet so many people with a disadvantage and who can’t do a lot of things that I do everyday. Meeting them and talking to them made me realize that these people are still ordinary people. They like to do a lot of the same things as everyone else. They may do them a bit differently and with some help, but they still do them. [Chelsey Hill]

This service project (at Imago) helped me value what I take for granted every day. I live on over 100 acres of woods and farm land and to me it is completely normal to go out and walk the creek or feed the horses or cattle. If I couldn't do that, I don't know what I would do. Nature is a huge part of my life and if I lived in the city I would love to have a place like Imago where I could go and just sit and walk through the woods. I realize now how fortunate I am to be so close to nature and am glad to have helped bring nature into the lives of the local children who don't have the same opportunity. [Sarah Archer — upper classman tennis player who was helping out with the freshmen at Imago but wasn’t a regular student leader]

Personally, I really liked the whole day! I got to meet lots of new people. I actually got to have FUN while volunteering! I think it was really great that we actually got to meet and work with the homeowner (at Habitat) herself. We got to receive feedback and praise from the very person we were building the house for! If I was going to be a freshman next year I would totally do it again! [David Hart]

Overall, this was a great experience. I would do it again in a heart beat. I never thought that I would have fun sitting and talking with the Sisters of Charity, but I had a blast. I felt like I was sitting and talking to my grandma. I was a little nervous at first because I did not know what to expect, but I am very glad that I got to experience this. I told Pam Korte that I would love to help take the clay pots back to the sisters so they can paint them and then take them back again for Christmas. I would like to thank you again so much for allowing me to be a part of this wonderful experience. [Erica Bowe]

I thought that this was an excellent opportunity for our student-athletes to be introduced to community service and to the environment. Our task was to help clean the Imago Center up for their upcoming fund raiser. Because we were not actually out planting trees or clearing pathways we were able to understand that the effort to save our environment is much more complex that just “being out in nature.” Thanks for the opportunity to introduce our players to community service and to an Urban Environmental Area. I think by the end of the day we were all appreciative of the work that goes on at Imago! [Melanee Atkinson, Head Women’s Basketball Coach]
