IDS 100 is the Mount’s first year seminar designed to help students make the transition to college-level thinking and writing. This course is meant to help students in many ways, including the following:
- Each section is small (about 20 students), so students can get to know others in their class and form a community of learners with them. In a small class of only first year students, they can begin to be comfortable discussing and working with, and learning from, other students.
- This course serves as the foundation of the Mount’s interdisciplinary core curriculum. It provides the basis for learning to think in an integrative way, combining the wisdom of different disciplines to address real world problems.
- Thirdly, it provides first year students with an introduction to the college. Students will learn about the various opportunities and services available to them. They will receive advice and support on adjusting to college-level courses, expectations, and writing.
