Mary Jean Blink, instructor and chair of computer information systems, attended the Revelation Software Developers Conference in Las Vegas, NV, in early October. A regular presenter at the conference, Mary Jean did software development demonstrations.

Sharon Kesterson Bollen, professor of art, traveled this summer to Washington, DC, to visit three museums with exhibits relevant to her classes: The Textile Museum - "Green: The Color and the Cause"; "Second Lives: The Age-old Art of Recycling Textiles"; The National Museum of Women in the Arts - "Fifty Years of Women Printmakers"; "The Guerrilla Girls Talk Back"; African Art Museum - Sub-sarahan traditional textiles. In New York City, she went to The Morgan Library - "Illuminating Fashion: Dress in the Art of Medieval France and the Netherlands Manuscripts"; Museum of Modern Art - "Talk to Me" (Technology & Design between objects and people); "Sum of Days" (fabric labyrinth); Metropolitan Museum of Art - "Ancient Andean Textiles"; "Korean Quilts"; "Quilt Variations in Art Forms"; Faith Ringgold's “Collaborations with NYC Public School Children 9/11 Tribute Quilts.”
Tim Bryant, executive director of ethical leadership, and Bill Lonneman, assistant professor of nursing, recently attended the 13th annual International Leadership Global Conference in London, England. The conference included participation from more than 800 attendees from 57 countries. The ILA is the largest international and interdisciplinary membership organization devoted solely to the study and development of leadership. It is one of the few organizations to actively embrace academics, practitioners, consultants, private industry, public leaders, not-for-profit organizations, and students.
J.W. Carter, associate professor of criminology, presented a paper titled "Local Law Enforcement in the Realm of Cyberspace" at the 2011 annual meeting of the Midwest Criminal Justice Association on September 30 in Chicago, IL.
Eric Johnson, assistant professor of chemistry, has two relatively recent publications: “NMR order parameters calculated in an expanding reference frame: identifying sites of short- and long-range motion” in the Journal of Biomolecular NMR and “Ca2+ Binding Alters the Interdomain Flexibility between the Two Cytoplasmic Calcium- binding Domains in the Na+/Ca2+ Exchanger” in the Journal of Biological Chemistry. Gene Kritsky, chair and professor of biology, recently co-authored an article in the journal Historical Biology describing the oldest definitive fossil of a cicada, which lived approximately 110 million years ago. The fossil cicada also gives details on the evolution of the cicada.
Craig Lloyd, associate professor of art, received a 2011 Aid to Individual Artists Award from the Summerfair Foundation on October 5. The $3,000 grants are awarded annually through a competitive process to four artists from the Greater Cincinnati area. Jennifer Morris, assistant professor of history, was recently selected to present a paper on UNICEF's food aid programs in Europe after WWII at the European Social Sciences History Conference in Glasgow, Scotland, UK.
Ron White, professor of philosophy, Mike Sontag, assistant professor and chair of general studies/philosophy, and Paul Jenkins, director of library services, published a bibliographic essay, “Leadership Ethics: An Emerging Academic Discipline” in the October 2011 issue of Choice.
Karl Zuelke, director of the writing center, delivered a talk titled, “Human/Equine Co-becoming: Equine Therapy and the Meeting of Species” at the Society for Literature, Science and the Arts conference in Kitchener, Ontario, on September 23.
