John Amankwah, associate professor of communications studies, presented a paper, “The Catholic Church’s Interpretation of the New Health Care Reform and the Defeat of its own Missionary Activities” in October during the Conference of Politics and Life Sciences Conference in Cincinnati.

John Amankwah, associate professor of communications studies, designed a Humanitarian Leadership Project with IDS 100/F8 class by initiating a campuswide drive to collect food items, clothing and money to donate as charity.
Sharon Bollen, professor of art, attended the annual conference of the Ohio Art Education Association in Dayton, Ohio, November 9-12, with 13 art education students, four of whom had their proposals selected to offer workshops.
Brooke Gialopsos,assistant professor of sociology and criminology, was the lead author and presenter on a joint project entitled, “The Deviant World of Disney: 1937-1989,” at the 2011 American Society of Criminology conference in Washington, D.C.
Jeffrey Hillard, associate professor of English and modern languages, was the guest poetry critic at the November meeting of the Greater Cincinnati Writer’s League (GCLW).
Jennifer Hosler, adjunct professor of nursing, was awarded her ANCC certification in psychiatric and mental health nursing. Jennifer’s credentials are now MN RN-BC.
Sue Johnson, dean of the division of health sciences, Gail Burns, BSN/MN program director, and Kelly Simmons, who recently left the College, will present a poster entitled, “Grow Your Own: An Initiative to Increase Doctorally Prepared Faculty at the College of Mount St. Joseph,” at the national Doctoral Nursing Conference in Naples, Fla., this month.
Gene Kritsky, professor of biology, presented a paper, “Gregor Mendel’s Beehives,” at the November national meeting of the Entomological Society in Reno, Nev. The paper was subsequently published in the December 2011 issue of “The American Bee Journal.”

Gene Kritsky, professor of biology, published a paper, “Minyscapheus dominicanus n. gen., n. sp. (Hemiptera: Cicadidae), a Fossil Cicada in Dominican Amber,” in the online issue of “Historical Biology.” The paper was coauthored with G. Poinar, Jr. and A. Brown.
Craig Lloyd, associate professor of art, served as a judge in the visual arts category for the Northwest Local School District’s “Reflections,” a regional competition for young artists sponsored by the Ohio PTA on December 1.
