Renee Loftspring, assistant professor of physical therapy, founded Cincinnati Icebreakers Sled Hockey program in 2008. The nonprofit organization offers adaptive ice hockey to youth and adults who are unable to skate in a standing position or find it painful or difficult due to a physical disability. The program's mission includes offering adaptive ice hockey at little to no cost to the player/family, loaning appropriate safety gear and equipment to all players at no charge, and engaging players and families to reap the benefits of participation from exercise and sport. The program has grown from four players in 2008 to 16 players today. Renee conducted a pilot study examining how sled hockey for youth impacts quality of life. The goal of this pilot study is to present potential donors an addition piece of evidence linking the positive effects of participation in exercise and sport to improved quality of life.
Lisa Wagner, assistant professor of communication studies, co-authored the article, "Communicating Thin: A Grounded Model of Online Negative Enabling Support Groups in the Pro-Anorexia Movement" in the journal "New Media & Society."
