Note: Completion of the FAFSA is required for all of these types of aid unless otherwise noted.
Academic Competitiveness Grant (ACG) - First year undergraduate students who graduated from high school after January 1, 2006 and second year undergraduate students who graduated from high school after January 1, 2005 are eligible for the ACG. An ACG provides up to $750 for the first year of undergraduate study and up to $1,300 for the second year of undergraduate study. First year students must have successfully completed a rigorous high school program and enrolled as a full-time student. Second year students must maintain a GPA of at least 3.0. Eligible students must be a Federal Pell Grant recipient.
SMART Grant - Third and fourth year undergraduate students pursuing a major in mathematics, physical or life sciences are eligible for the National Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent (SMART) Grant. Eligible students must be full-time and have a 3.0 GPA in coursework required for the qualifying major. This third- and fourth-year award is $4,000 each year for Pell eligible students.
Mount St. Joseph Grant - College funded gift aid awarded on the basis of achievement and promise and in accordance with the student's financial need. The amount of assistance is determined on the basis of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Federal Pell Grants - The Pell Grant program is a federal entitlement program authorized by the Education Amendments of 1972. Eligibility is determined from data on the FAFSA. Information about Pell Grants is available in the offices of high school counselors and college financial aid administrators. For the 2008-2009 academic year, the Pell Grant ranges from $523 to $4731.
Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grants (SEOG) - These awards are made from funds allotted by the federal government for students with significant financial need. Priority is given to Pell Grant recipients.
Ohio Instructional Grants (OIG) - The Ohio Instructional Grant Program provides tuition assistance to Ohio residents enrolled in Ohio institutions of higher education. Information about the program may be obtained from your high school counselor or from the College of Mount St. Joseph Student Administrative Services Office. Application is made by filing the FAFSA. OIG ranges from $544 to $5466.
Ohio College Opportunity Grant (OCOG) - The Ohio College Opportunity Grant provides tuition assistance to first-time college students who are Ohio residents. Eligible students with an Expected Family Contribution (EFC) between 0000 and 2190 will be awarded the grant (as long as the total family income is not greater than $75000). Application is made by filing the FAFSA. OCOG ranges from $600 to $4992.
Federal College Work-Study Program - this program provides employment for students who qualify according to specified government regulations.
Campus Employment - Part-time work opportunities are available on campus, payable on a per-hour basis, for qualified students who are in need of such assistance to help defray expenses.
Federal Perkins Loans - Low-interest (5%), long-term loans are financed by the government for qualified needy students. Funding is extremely limited. Information concerning the loan program will be furnished by the College on request.
Nursing Student Loans - The Nurse Training Act provides for long-term, low-interest loans (5%) for qualified students with financial need.
Federal Subsidized Stafford Loan - These are low interest loans for students attending school at least half-time. They are available to students who qualify based on financial need. Students who do not qualify financially for a subsidized loan can still borrow through the Stafford Loan program but the loan would be "unsubsidized." A subsidized loan is one where the government pays the interest for the student while in school. With an unsubsidized loan the student is responsible for the interest from the day the loan is disbursed. Interest can be paid as it accrues or after the student is out of school.
Schell Foundation Student Loans- No interest "honor" loans provided to Mount students through a gift to the College from the Schell Foundation.
