Biography: 

Dr. Cardillo is an associate professor and serves as chair of the Department of Communication and New Media Studies. She teaches a variety of courses, including communication theory, rhetorical theory, speech, and health communication. Professor Cardillo earned her Ph.D., M.A., and B.A. degrees in communication from The Ohio State University.
Dr. Cardillo brings a critical and emancipatory perspective to her research in the areas of health care communication, communication ethics, and the relationship between communication and identity. Her independent or collaborative research has been published in several journals, including the Western Journal of Communication, Communication Monographs, Issues in Mental Health Nursing, andthe Electronic Journal of Communication, as well as in the book, Key Aspects of Preventing and Managing Chronic Illness. She is an active member of the National Communication Association (NCA) and the Central States Communication Association (CSCA), and is the chair of CSCA’s Health Communication Interest Group.
Dr. Cardillo was a recipient of NCA’s 2001 Golden Anniversary Monograph Award, NCA’s Health Communication Division 2004 Distinguished Article Award, and the CSCA Health Communication Interest Group’s 2010 Top Paper Award.
