Head Coach Brean Caldwell Vaske

Brean Caldwell Vaske begins her first season as head coach of the Lions’ women’s tennis team. Vaske, who was hired in August, 2008, will also be a Mount women’s basketball assistant coach.

She comes to the Mount from NAIA Midway College (Midway, KY), where she was a varsity assistant basketball coach and junior varsity basketball head coach last season. She helped the team to their best-ever record (23-8), a first place standing in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC), a runner-up finish in KIAC tournament and a ranking of 28th in the NAIA Division II. Vaske also has coaching experience at Oakland Catholic High School (as a ninth grade coach), 1999-2006. In addition, the Lions’ first-year coach has directed girls’ AAU basketball teams, CYO basketball teams and elementary school teams. She has attended numerous basketball clinics around the country, which has featured many well-known college basketball coaches. 

Vaske played four years of high school basketball at Mt. Alvernia High School (Pittsburgh, PA) and was recruited out of high school. She attended Duquesne University on a full academic scholarship, where she obtained her bachelor of science degree in business administration, finance/economics in 1999 and her juris doctor from Duquesne’s School of Law in 2002.

She has worked as an attorney in Pennsylvania (2002-2006) and as a law clerk as well.

Coach Vaske resides in Lexington, KY with her husband, Dr. Brian Vaske.

 Assistant Coach Ann Faulkner        

Ann Faulkner returns for her second season as an assistant coach with the Mount. She was previously at the Mount as an assistant women's tennis coach from 1998-2002, then returned in 2006. While playing tennis at the Mount from 1995-1998, she was a team captain and compiled a 35-14 overall mark in singles and doubles. She had 19 singles wins during her Lions' career, tied for the fifth-highest mark in school history, and her 35 total wins is sixth-best all-time at the Mount.

In addition, she also played four years of varsity tennis at Seton High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from the Mount in 1998 with a bachelor of science degree in biology. Faulkner was also in the biological honors society, Tri-Beta, while at the Mount.

Coach Faulkner works in research and development for the Procter and Gamble Company, a position she has held since graduating from the Mount. She resides in Cold Spring, Kentucky.
