Jeff Newman begins this third season as head women’s golf. Coach Newman was hired in July 2005 by the College as a full-time coach, with the duties of head women’s golf coach and assistant baseball coach.
Newman, who was an assistant baseball coach at the Mount for three seasons (2002-2004), was an assistant baseball coach at the University of Cincinnati before returning to the Mount. Newman has also been the head baseball coach for the Midland summer baseball program since 2002, an athletic director at Clermont Northeastern High School and Middle School (1998-2000), and head varsity baseball coach at CNE High School (1999-2000).
Newman graduated in 1998 from Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina, with a bachelor’s degree in sports administration. At Barton he played baseball for two seasons and was an all-conference selection. He also played collegiately at Kentucky Wesleyan University for two seasons.
Newman and his wife, Michelle, and two daughters, Bree and Corrine, reside in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Assistant Coach Lauren Hessel
Lauren Hessel begins her first season as the Mount’s women’s assistant golf coach. She graduated from the Mount in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in middle childhood education. She was a four-year member of the Lions’ golf program – the only person to play four seasons for the Mount’s women’s golf team.
Hessel is employed as a sixth grade math teacher at Allison Street Elementary School in the Norwood City School District. In addition, Hessel has coached junior varsity girls’ golf at her high school alma mater, Oak Hills, and is coaching sixth and seventh grade girls’ basketball at Orient Academy, a charter school in Cincinnat, Ohio.
She lives in Cincinnati, Ohio.
