College of Mount St. Joseph's Laurie Neumann (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) picked up her second All-Region award for the season, as she has been named to the D3kicks.com All-Great Lakes Region Second Team.
12/21/07 Laurie Neumann named NSCAA/adidas All-Great Lakes Region First Team
Sophomore defender Laurie Neumann (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) has been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association/adidas Division III All-Great Lakes Region First Team. The award was the first all-region honor for Neumann in her career.
She had three goals and seven points, and helped the Mount post 10 shutouts this season. Neumann also was a First Team All-HCAC selection this season.
11/12/07 Beth Schuermann selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team
Junior forward Beth Schuermann (Cincinnati, OH/Home schooled) has been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 4 Third Team. Schuermann is majoring in Nursing and has a 3.90 GPA. The team was selected by Sports Information Directors in District 4. This is the first such honor for Schuermann.
11/06/07 Five Mount players named to HCAC All-Conference Teams
Junior forward Beth Schuermann (Cincinnati, OH/Home schooled), junior midfielder Allie Pirman (Amelia, OH/Amelia) and sophomore defender Laurie Neumann (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) have each been named to the All-HCAC First Team. Teammates Laura Mund (South Dearborn, IN/South Dearborn), a junior defender, and Kelly Bare (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain), a junior goalkeeper, were each named Second Team All-Conference.
The post-season conference award was the third such award for Schuermann and the second such award for Neumann, who each made Second Team All-HCAC in 2006. Schuermann was voted Second Team All-HCAC in both 2005 and 2006. This is the first all-conference honor for Pirman, Mund and Bare.
10/31/07 Mount season ends with a 3-1 setback against Transylvania in the semifinals of the HCAC Tournament
Host Transylvania University scored three unanswered second half goals against the Mount as they knocked off the Lions 3-1 tonight in the semifinals of the HCAC Tournament. The Mount ends the 2007 season with an 11-7-1 mark while Transy (13-4-1) moves on to the Nov. 3 HCAC Tournament Championship against Rose-Hulman.
Beth Schuermann (Cincinnati, OH/Home schooled) scored her team-leading 10th goal of the season with under a minute to play against the Pioneers. The Lions had nine shots in the game, including five on goal.
10/27/07 Lions senior Jan Frazee scores two goals and teammate Jessica Jester scores the game-winner in the Mount's 3-1 at Bluffton
Senior Jan Frazee ( Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) scored two goals and Jessica Jester (Hamilton, OH/Ross) recorded the go-ahead goal and eventual game-winner in the 59th minute of action today in the Lions' 3-1 win at Bluffton. The Mount is now 11-6-1 overall, and finishes HCAC regular season play with a 6-2 mark, good for third place.
The Lions will play at second-seed Transylavania on Oct. 31 (7 p.m.) in one semfinal match-up while top-seeded Rose-Hulman will host fourth-seeded Manchester in the other semifinal game that day (2:30 p.m.). The winners of those two games will play for the HCAC Tournament Championship on Nov. 1 at 1 p.m.
Jester also assisted on Frazee's first goal in the 19th minute of the game. Frazee added her second goal of the game with just under two minutes remaining in the game.
10/23/07 Pioneers edge Lions in a key HCAC match-up, 1-0
Transylvania's Lauren Everly scored in the game's third minute and the host Pioneers made it stand up tonight as they won at the, 1-0. The Mount goes to 10-6-1, 5-2 in the HCAC (third place). Transylvania ups its record to 11-4-1, 6-1 in the HCAC and is in second place. Rose-Hulman continues to lead the HCAC with a 7-0 mark while Manchester is fourth at 4-2-1. The conference regular season ends this week.
The top four conference teams will advance to the HCAC Tournament, which will begin with the top two teams hosting the semifinals on Oct. 31. The HCAC Tournament Final will take place on Nov. 3.
The Lions out-shot Transy 14-7 in the game and two teams tied with four shots each on goal. The loss ended the Mount's eight-game win streak and nine-game unbeaten string.
10/20/07 Lions keep pace with HCAC leaders with a 3-0 home win over Anderson University
Ashley Maynard (Milford, OH/Milford) scored in the 12th minute of the game today - her team-high fourth game-winning goal this season, as the Mount posted its eighth straight win, all by shutout, in a 3-0 home win over Anderson University. The Mount currently has an unbeaten string of nine games.
The Lions are now 10-5-1 overall, and 5-1 in the HCAC, tied for second place in the conference with Transylvania, who they will host on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. Rose-Hulman is in first place in the HCAC with a 6-0 mark as the conference heads into its final week of play. The Mount will conclude 2007 regular season play on Oct. 27 at HCAC-foe Bluffton University.
Mount leading scorer Beth Schuermann (Cincinnati, OH/Home schooled) scored just after halftime to give the Lions a 2-0 lead. The goal was Schuermann's ninth of the season. Allie Pirman (Amelia, OH/Amelia) added an assist on the goal and scored the game's final goal with five minutes remaining.
The Lions' defense held AU to two shots in the game, neither on goal, as Kelly Bare (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) posted her tenth shutout of the season.
10/16/07 Mount moves into second place in the HCAC with a 9-0 victory at Franklin College
The Lions got goals from seven different players today, and the defense continued its stellar play as the Mount won at HCAC-foe Franklin College, 9-0. The Lions, winners of seven straight, and unbeaten in their last eight games, move into second place in the HCAC with a 4-1 mark. They trail only Rose-Hulman (5-0) in the conference standings and are 1/2 game ahead of Transylvania (3-1). The Mount, 9-5-1 overall, will host an HCAC game against Anderson (4-10-2, 1-3-1 HCAC) on Oct. 20. The game will be Senior Day and will begin at approximately 2:15 p.m.
Beth Schuermann (Cincinnati, OH/Home schooled) and Erin Rosen (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) had two goals each against the Grizzlies. Shannon Nortman (Cincinnati, OH/Mercy) and Katie Witterstaetter (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) tallied their first goals of the season, as did Rosen, against Franklin. Kelly Bare (Colerain) registered her ninth shutout of the season, giving her the second-highest single-season total in Mount history. The record of 11 is held by Amanda Hauck (2005).
10/13/07 Lions run winning streak to six games with a 1-0 win at Westminster (PA) College
Junior Allie Pirman (Amelia, OH/Amelia) scored her first goal of the season, in the 40th minute of the game, as the Lions posted their six straight win with a 1-0 shutout today at non-conference Westminster (PA) College. The Lions, who are on a seven-game unbeaten string, are now 8-5-1 and will play at HCAC-foe Franklin College (0-13-1, 0-5 HCAC) on Oct. 16. Westminster falls to 10-3-2 with the loss.
Jessica Jester (Hamilton, OH/Ross) and Nikki Jones (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) assisted on Pirman's goal while teammate Kelly Bare (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) posted her eighth shutout this season. That mark ties Bare for the second-highest single-season total in Mount history.
10/9/07 Junior goalkeeper Kelly Bare named HCAC Player of the Week
College of Mount St. Joseph junior goalkeeper Kelly Bare (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain), who recorded two more shutouts last week against Hanover and Manchester to run her string to five in a row, has been named the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Soccer Player of the Week.
Bare has posted seven shutouts this season which ranks third in Lions single season history. With the two victories, MSJ moved into a second place tie in the HCAC with a 3-1 record. The junior goalkeeper has allowed only 11 goals for a 0.82 goals against average in 13 starts this season.
10/6/07 Lions post fifth straight victory with a 3-0 win at Manchester College
Ashley Maynard (Milford, OH/Milford) scored twice today to help the Mount to a 3-0 win at Manchester College. The win was the Lions fifth straight and upped their record to 7-5-1 overall, 3-1 in the HCAC. Manchester is now 3-7-2, 1-1 in the conference. The Mount, tied for second place in the HCAC with Transylvania, and behind Rose-Hulman (5-0) will play at non-conference Westminster (PA) College on Oct. 13.
Maynard scored unassisted in both the 19th minute of the game and in the 55 minute, her third and fourth goals of the season, helping the Mount to a 2-0 advantage. Mount leading scorer Beth Schuermann (Cincinnati, OH/Home schooled) added an insurance goal with just 1:27 remaining in the game, off assists from Jan Frazee ( Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) and Allie Pirman (Amelia, OH/Amelia).
Kelly Bare (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) faced seven shots, but only four on goal as she recorded her seventh shutout of the season, the third-most shutouts for an individual in Mount single-season history. The five straight shutouts the Mount has recorded is a new school record.
10/2/07 Mount goes to 2-1 in the conference with a 1-0 home victory over Hanover College
Beth Schuermann (Cincinnati, OH/Home schooled) scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 24th minute of play tonight and the Lions defense continued its solid play, as the Lions defeated Hanover at home, 1-0. The Mount, winners of four straight, ran their unbeaten string to five games and are now 6-5-1 overall, 2-1 in the HCAC. Hanover goes to 4-7, 1-1. The Lions return to action on Oct. 6 when they play at HCAC-rival Manchester College.
Schuermann received a long pass from teammate Allie Pirman (Amelia, OH/Amelia) and ripped a shot past the Panthers' goalkeeper to put the Mount ahead by a 1-0 margin. Kelly Bare (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) faced only seven shots, and just three on goal as she recorded her fourth straight shutout. The four consecutive shutouts by the Lions tied a team record while Bare's six shutouts this season tied her for the third-best mark in single season history.
9/29/07 Lions win third straight game with a 2-0 HCAC home win over Defiance College
The Mount won its third straight gam, and ran its unbeaten string to four games, with a 2-0 decision today at home against Defiance College. The Mount, 5-5-1 overall, 1-1 in the HCAC, got back to the .500 level since they were 2-2 on Sept. 9. The Mount puts their unbeaten streak on the line when they host HCAC-foe Hanover College on Oct. 2.
The shutout against the Yellow Jackets today was posted by Kelly Bare (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain), her third straight and fifth this season. She faced only four shots from Defiance and had one save. The Lions got a first half goal from Ashley Maynard (Milford, OH/Milford), her second of the season; and a second half goal from Jan Frazee (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley), her first of the season. Frazee is the team's lone senior this season. Laurie Neumann (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) picked up an assist on Maynard's goal.
9/26/07 Mount wins second straight with a 1-0 home victory over Capital
Sophomore Laurie Neumann (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) scored in the 29th minute of play tonight helping the Mount to a 1-0 win over Capital University. The Lions, winners of two straight and on a three-game unbeaten streak, go to 4-5-1 on the season. Capital falls to 5-3-1 with the loss. The Mount will host HCAC-foe Defiance College on Sept. 29.
Neumann directed in a corner kick from teammate Jessica Jester (Hamilton, OH/Ross) in the first half and the Mount defense, along with goalkeeper Kelly Bare (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) held the Crusaders off for the Lions' fourth shutout of the season. Bare, who faced 15 shots, had two saves in the game.
9/24/07 Beth Schuermann scores twice and adds an assist in the Mount's 3-0 home win over Spalding University
Junior forward Beth Schuermann (Cincinnati, OH/Home schooled) had two goals and an assist tonight, helping the Lions to a 3-0 home victory against Spalding University. The Mount is now 3-5-1 on the season and will host Capital University on Sept. 26.
Schuermann got the scoring started in the first half, just 2:06 into the game when she scored off a pass from Allie Pirman (Amelia, OH/Amelia) following a corner kick by Jan Frazee (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley). Schuermann made it 2-0 with her team-high fourth goal of the season coming in the 68 minute of play. Samantha Huster (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) added an assist. Hannah Bowling (Addyston, OH/Taylor) scored he first career goal just over four miniutes later on an assist from Schuermann to end the scoring.
The Lions did not allow a shot in the game, as goalkeeper Kelly Bare (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) recorded her third shutout of the season.
9/21/07 Lions and Polar Bears battle to a 1-1 double overtime tie
Freshman Ashley Maynard (Milford, OH/Milford) scored her first college goal tonight in the 16th minute of play as the host Mount and Ohio Northern University played to a 1-1 double overtime tie. The Lions are now 2-5-1 on the season while ONU goes to 2-3-1. The Mount returns to action on Sept. 24 when they host Spalding University in a 5 p.m. game.
Maynard gave the Lions a 1-0 lead in the first half, off a pass from Allie Pirman (Amelia, OH/Amelia), but ONU answered just over 10 minutes later to tie the game. Mount goalkeeper Kelly Bare (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) had a solid game for the Mount, recording eight saves, including many from point-blank range. The tie ends a Mount three-game losing streak.
9/18/07 Lions lose second straight 1-0 game
Visiting Wittenberg University scored a goal with just under 22 minutes remaining in the game tonight and held on to blank the Mount, 1-0. The Lions fall to 2-5 with the loss, their second straight by a 1-0 score, while Wittenberg goes to 6-2. The Tigers were ranked fourth in the latest D3kicks.com Great Lakes Region Poll.
The Mount is back in action on Sept. 21 when they host a non-conference game against Ohio Northern University at 7:00 p.m.
Wittenberg held the Lions to one shot on the night while the Tigers had 13 shots on goal. Mount goalkeeper Kelly Bare (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) had 10 saves.
9/16/07 The Mount loses second straight overtime game by a 1-0 score at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology
Rose-Hulman's Molly Richardson scored the game-winning goal 2:57 into overtime today as host Rose-Hulman defeated the Mount, 1-0. The Lions are now 2-4 overall, 0-1 in the HCAC while Rose-Hulman goes to 6-2, 2-0. The Mount returns to action on Sept. 18 with a 7:00 p.m. home game against Wittenberg University (5-2).

9/13/07 Lions fall 3-2 in double overtime at home to Ohio Wesleyan University
Megan Smith (Cincinnati, OH/Milford) scored her second goal of the game with 5:23 remaining in regulation but the Lions fell tonight in double overtime to Ohio Wesleyan University, 3-2. The Mount, 2-3 overall resume action on Sept. 16 when they play at HCAC-rival Rose-Hulman. Ohio Wesleyan University goes to 2-2-1 with the win.
The Bishops won the game in the second overtime on a goal from Lindsey Macklin, her second of the game.
9/9/07 Jessica Jester and Laurie Neumann score goals and teammate Kelly Bare posts her second shutout of the season in a 2-0 win at home over Thomas More College
Jessica Jester (Hamilton, OH/Ross) got the Lions on the scoreboard just 5:18 into the game tonight and then helped the Mount to a second score early in the second half as the Mount defeated cross-river rival Thomas More College at home, 2-0. The Lions go to 2-2 on the season while Thomas More is now 3-1. The Mount returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 13 when they host Ohio Wesleyan University (1-2-1) in a 7:00 p.m. game.
Thomas More was ranked in a tie for first place by D3kicks.com in the latest Great Lakes Regional poll.
With 59:25 elapsed in the game, Jester put her corner kick into the Saints goalbox and after an Allie Pirman (Amelia, OH/Amelia) pass, Laurie Neumann (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) fired in an insurance goal for the Lions. Kelly Bare (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain) had three saves for the Mount in her second shutout of the season.
9/5/07 Mount suffers a 1-0 decision at Wilmington College
Host Wilmington College got a goal 15:50 into the game and made it stand up tonight in a 1-0 victory over the Lions. The Mount falls to 1-2 on the season while Wilmington, which was tied for fourth in the D3kicks.com Great Lakes Region poll, goes to 3-0.
The Lions had six shots in the game, three in each half. The Mount retuns to action on Sept. 9 when they host Thomas More College in a 5:30 p.m. game.
9/1/07 Lions fall by a 4-0 score to #6-ranked Calvin College
Calvin College scored two goals in each half today en route to a 4-0 win over the Mount at Denison University. Calvin College was ranked sixth in the latest D3kicks.com National Poll.

8/31/07 Mount gets two goals from Beth Schuermann and Kelly Bare posts the shutout in a 2-0 win against Hope College
The Lions opened the 2007 season on a winning note today, blanking Hope College at Kenyon College (Gambier, OH), 2-0. The game was also the season opener for Hope.
Junior Beth Schuermann (Cincinnati, OH/Home schooled) scored a goal in the 31st minute of play and added a goal early in the second half to give the Mount a 2-0 lead. Junior teammate Jessica Jester (Hamilton, OH/Ross) had two assists while senior Jan Frazee (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) chipped in assist on Schuermann's second goal. Junior Kelly Bare (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain), in her first game for the Lions, stopped two shots to record the shutout. Bare is a transfer from NCAA Division II Northern Kentucky University, where she played for two seasons.
The Mount returns to action on Sept. 1 when they play Calvin College at Denison College (Granville, OH). Game time is 3:30 p.m.
8/14/07 Lions picked to finish second in the HCAC Coaches Preseason Poll
The College of Mount St. Joseph received two first-place votes, and finished just behind Transylvania in the 2007 HCAC Coaches Preseason Poll. Transylvania had four first-place votes and 73 points while the Mount totaled 69 points.
Rose-Hulman, Manchester and Hanover rounded out the top five while Anderson, Defiance, Bluffton and Franklin completed the poll. Rose-Hulman (2) and Manchester (1) received the other first-place votes.
5/11/07 Milford High School’s Ashley Maynard and Dater High School’s Carolyn Eichhorn to attend the Mount and play soccer for the Lions
The College of Mount St. Joseph officially announces that Milford High School senior Ashley Maynard and Dater High School senior Carolyn Eichhorn have committed to attend the College of Mount St. Joseph and play soccer in the fall of 2007 for the Lions.
Maynard, who played left midfield while in high school, was 10th in the GMC for most assists this past season. She won a school academic award during her freshman and sophomore seasons, and has been involved with the Girl Scouts; and the rowing club (junior year). Maynard also has done volunteering work and played club soccer. She played high school soccer for Pat Winkler.
Ashley is planning on majoring in Nursing at the Mount.
Eichhorn, who played left midfield while in high school, was a team captain her junior and senior seasons; was given the team’s Ms. Hustle award her junior year and won the Coach’s Award her senior season. In addition she was honorable mention all-conference her senior season. Eichhorn is a member of the National Honor Society, is on her school’s honor roll, and has been involved with other clubs and won other academic awards. She is also a member of the high school track & field team. Eichhorn played high school soccer for James Robb.
Carolyn has not yet declared her college major.
3/15/07 Batavia High School’s Sara Stewart to attend the Mount and play soccer for the Lions
The College of Mount St. Joseph officially announces that Batavia High School senior Sara Stewart has committed to attend the College of Mount St. Joseph and play soccer in the fall of 2007 for the Lions.
Stewart, who played left forward while in high school, had seven goals and five assists during her senior season, four goals and two assists her junior season and two goals during her sophomore season. She was named a scholar athlete following her freshman season, was in the National Honor Society, was a teacher’s assistant for three years and was a in the Spanish Club. Her high school coach was Jamie Corns.
Sara is planning on majoring in Physical Therapy at the Mount.
2/19/07 Lebanon High School’s Jessica Smith to attend the Mount and play soccer for the Lions
The College of Mount St. Joseph officially announces that Lebanon High School senior Jessica Smith has committed to attend the College of Mount St. Joseph and play soccer in the fall of 2007 for the Lions.
Smith, who played sweeper, center midfielder and forward while in high school, won the Coach’s Award, Sportsmanship Award, and Scholar Athlete Award for her team. In addition, Smith was on her school’s honor roll for four years, in the Spanish Club, in the War Zone Spirit Club, on the Running Club and performed community service while in high school. Her high school coach was Stacey Deaton.
Jessica is planning on majoring in Biochemistry at the Mount.
2/7/07 Milford High School's Megan Smith to attend the Mount and play soccer for the Lions
The College of Mount St. Joseph officially announces that Milford High School senior Megan Smith has committed to attend the College of Mount St. Joseph and play soccer in the fall of 2007 for the Lions.
Smith, who played defense while in high school, was a team captain last season, Milford’s best defensive player in 2005 and 2006, was a second team all-GMC selection in 2006 and was honorable mention all-city last fall. Her high school coach was Pat Winkler.
In addition, Smith ran high school track and was on her school’s academic honor roll.
