5/6/08     Elder High School senior Nick McDonald to attend the Mount this fall and play soccer

The College of Mount St. Joseph officially announces that Elder senior Nick McDonald will attend the Mount in the fall and play soccer.

McDonald, who played outside midfielder and defender, helped the Panthers post 10 shutouts during his senior season as the team advanced to the state semifinals. As a JV team captain his junior season, he totaled three goals and two assists after scoring six goals during his sophomore JV season.

In addition, he also was an Honors Student during his freshman and sophomore seasons, and for two quarters each during junior and senior seasons. McDonald is a member of the St. Jude Youth Group.

McDonald is planning to major in Graphic Design at the Mount. Nick, who played for Matt Ruehl at Elder, is the son of Cathy and James McDonald.

5/1/08     Newport Central Catholic senior Jon Becker and Dater High School senior Kris Freppon to attend the Mount this fall and play soccer

The College of Mount St. Joseph officially announces that Newport Central Catholic senior Jon Becker and Dater High School senior Kris Freppon to attend the Mount this fall and play soccer.

Becker, a center midfielder, had 13 goals and six assists his senior season at Newport Central Catholic. He was selected Honorable Mention on the All-Region team. Becker was also his school’s Pep Club President, was a Student Ambassador and in the Students for Life group. His high school coach was Steve Bornhoffer.
Jon, the son of Elaine Watson and Dan Becker, plans to major in History at the Mount.

Freppon, a defender, played high school soccer for Joe Bilz. Kris, the son of Vivian and Mark Freppon, plans to major in Music Education at the Mount.

4/15/08     Mount soccer programs to host boys’ and girls’ summer soccer camps

The College of Mount St. Joseph men’s and women’s soccer teams will host the school’s annual boys and girls summer soccer camps, starting on July 21, 2008. Session I will take place from July 21-25, 9 a.m. to noon for ages 6-12 while Session II is the same dates, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for ages 13 and older.

The camps will he held on the Mount’s Sports Complex and River Road Fields (if necessary). Registration will take place on July 21, one hour prior to the start of camp. Enrollment costs for the camps are Session I, $70 and Session II, $80. Highlights of the camp include, excellent player/coach ratio, strong emphasis on technical skills, camp, contests, and a great teaching staff.
