2009 SOCCER CAMP

6/2/09     Lions’ soccer receives two more commitments

Mariemont High School senior Tyler Kenyon and Northwestern High School (Springfield, OH) senior William Abraham will attend the College of Mount St. Joseph this fall and play soccer.

Kenyon, a goalkeeper, set the Mariemont High School shutout record and was a CHL Honorable Mention selection last fall. He also played baseball in high school. Kenyon’s high school soccer coach was Joe Mehl. Tyler, the son of Cyndi and Paul Kenyon, is undecided on his college major.

Abraham, a midfielder/striker, had three goals and an assist his senior season, and totaled four goals and 20 assists during his prep career. In addition, Abraham was on his school’s Honor Roll, in the National Honor Society, on Student Council (Vice President), and in other clubs. He played for Bob Caldwell at Northwestern.

William, the son of Melynda Chobot and Andrew Abraham, is planning on majoring in Athletic Training/Physical Therapy.

5/5/09     Lions announce three high school seniors to attend the College and play soccer

The College of Mount St. Joseph officially announces that Mariemont High School senior Lee Rogers, Georgetown High School senior Shawn Damen and Louisville (KY) Trinity High School senior Stewart Higgins will attend the Mount this fall and play soccer.

Rogers, a midfielder, had four goals and four assists during his junior season and added two goals and four assists his senior campaign. He won Second Team All-CHL honors following his junior year and was First Team All-CHL, First Team All-Southwest Ohio and All-City his senior year. In addition, Rogers on a student athlete award his sophomore and junior years. Rogers played for Joe Mehl at Mariemont. Lee, the son of Patricia and Mark Rogers, is undecided on what his college major.

Damen, a forward, had 16 goals last season, and totaled 27 goals in his last three prep seasons. Damen as a Second Team All-League selection his junior season and First Team All-League last fall. During high school, Damen was in the National Honor Society, won the President’s Award, was on the A/B Honor Roll, and as involved with many volunteer groups and organizations. Damen played for Robert Thomas at Georgetown. Shawn, the son of Karen and Dick Colwell, is planning to major in Athletic Training.

Higgins, a defender, and two-time team co-captain, was a team MVP his junior season and won his team’s Coaches Award his senior season. Higgins, who also was his select team’s three-year captain and 2008 MVP Award winner, was on his school’s Honor Roll, won the Shamrock Award, was the senior class vice president and has a 3.8 grade point average. Higgins played for Gregory Moss-Brown at Georgetown. Stewart, the son of Lynn and Michael Higgins, is undecided on his college major.  


4/23/09     Mount announces two high school seniors to attend the College and play soccer

The College of Mount St. Joseph officially announces that Elder High School senior Jason Modafari and Amelia High School senior Paul Orleck will attend the Mount this fall and play soccer.

Modafari, a midfielder/forward, was on his school’s Honor Roll, in the Spanish Club, on the Sigma Chi Fraternity Club team and played intramural soccer. Jason, who plans to major in Athletic Training at the Mount, is the son of Mary and Joe Modafari.

Orleck, a goalkeeper, was an All-FAVC Second Team selection his junior and senior seasons; and was named team MVP and Best Defensive player for his efforts during his senior season. In addition, Orleck won a student achievement award from the Mount his junior year. He played for Eric Burger in high school. Paul, who plans to major in Graphic Design at the Mount, is the son of Janice and Donald Orleck.

4/8/09     Mount announces three additional incoming student-athletes

The College of Mount St. Joseph officially announces that Roger Bacon High School senior Michael Brunner, Oak Hills High School senior Jason Krupp and Mariemont High School senior Ryan Petronio will attend the Mount this fall and play soccer.

Brunner a defender/midfielder, was a co-captain on the Cincinnati West Soccer Club, a Merit Student, on his school’s Honor Roll all four years, and been involved with community service at Corpus Christi Church. He played for Dick Arzman in high school. Michael, who plans to major in Sport Management at the Mount, is the son of Anita and Terry Brunner.

Krupp, a striker/center midfielder, led his team in assists his senior season, and was in the Partner’s Club, while achieving honors throughout high school. His high school coach was John Mirrizi. Jason, who plans to major in Physical Therapy at the Mount, is the son of Julie and Robert Krupp.

Petronio, a defender, was a CHL Honorable Mention selection, was on the Merit Roll, in Leadership Council, and garnered a 3.4 GPA while in high school. He also played basketball. Ryan, who plans to major in Nursing at the Mount, is the son of Bobbie and Peter Petronio.

5/28/09     Roger Bacon High School senior Ben Barnes and Naperville (IL) Central’s Braden Schultz to attend the Mount and play soccer this fall

The College of Mount St. Joseph officially announces that Roger Bacon High School senior Ben Barnes and Naperville (IL) Central’s Braden Schultz will attend the College and play soccer this fall.

Barnes, a forward/midfielder, scored seven goals last season and was selected to the All-GCL team. In 2007 he recorded five goals. In addition, Barnes achieved Second Honors in the classroom. He played for Dick Arzman at Roger Bacon.

Ben, the son of Cathy and Charlie Barnes, is planning on majoring in Nursing.

Schultz is expected to play either the forward or midfield position this fall. He is a 2004 high school graduate and the son of Susan Mayer and Bill Schultz. Braden is planning on majoring in Sport Management.

4/23/09     Rob Huesman and Ben Denier to play in OCSA Senior All-Star game

Mount senior players Rob Huesman (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) and Ben Denier (Cincinnati, OH/LaSalle) have been selected to the play in the Ohio Coaches Soccer Association Senior All-Star game. The game will take place at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, OH on April 26.
