Maria is a junior social work major who also is working on minors in psychology and mathematics. She is a member of the Lions basketball team and was named first-team all conference in the Heartland Conference in 2006. She led the Mount in points, rebounds and blocked shots; and scored in double figures in 20 of the team's 27 games during the 2005-2006 season. Maria says she loves to play just about any sport, and spends her free time outside running, swimming, camping and hiking. She also enjoys oil painting, preferrably landscapes. While her brother, Pat, also attended the Mount, she chose the college after visiting on her own. "I felt incredibly comfortable. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. I know the Mount was a place where I could live and grow away from home, but with the support of people who make up the campus."
