Alumni Career Achievement Award - Diane Burke Stephens ’67
Diane Burke Stephens has devoted her career as an administrator to helping those in crisis and need. Throughout an outstanding 30-year career with the American Red Cross, she held a variety of positions over the years, from program coordinator at Fort McPherson, Georgia, to the director of Armed Forces Emergency Services and International Services.
As part of her responsibilities, Diane joined in the Disaster Services Leadership Initiative Project, and served as an instructor for advanced level disaster services training courses throughout the United States. In response to 9/11, Diane served as the American Red Cross liaison with the Department of Defense at the Family Assistance Center in Alexandria, Virginia, to help families who were affected when the airplane crashed into the Pentagon.
Among her many accolades and awards, Diane has received the Operation Desert Storm Certificate of Appreciation and the Armed Forces Emergency Services National Award.
Though she retired in 2001, Diane continues to work for the American Red Cross as a volunteer with the Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter. She has trained to serve as the national consultant on the Critical Response Team for the Administration Function and for international response during times of disaster overseas. She is on-call one month each year for worldwide assignments with the International Response Team,and is a member of the Hurricane Watch Team.
Today the College of Mount St. Joseph honors Diane Burke Stephens, class of 1967, with the Alumni Career Achievement Awardfor her professional accomplishments and dedication to serving others.
