From the moment that Gene Stelten met Jeanne Buzek, he knew she was a special woman. She was a nurse at Good Samaritan Hospital, where she began her career after graduation from the Mount in 1950. The two married and Jeanne Buzek Stelten took a new career path – she dedicated her life to the service of her family and others.
She devoted 35 years to raising her children, helping them develop sound moral principals, and helping her father in his final years. Twenty years ago, she volunteered to assist disabled people by driving them to doctors’ appointments and grocery shopping – devoting countless hours to helping people in need.
As the chair of the Welcome Committee of the North Farm Homeowner’s Association in Atlanta, Jeanne welcomed each new family with a gift and packet of information, and invited them to join in the community activities. During the eight years she served as chair, Jeanne welcomed 250 families. At St. George Village in Roswell, Georgia, where the Steltens now live, Jeanne helped organize a chorale group from the independent living community to sing for the residents of the assisted living and skilled nursing sections of the Village.
In nominating his wife, Gene Stelten wrote, “By her devotion to the service of others, Jeanne has been a blessing to her family and to her community.” Today the College of Mount St. Joseph honors Jeanne Buzek Stelten, class of 1950, for her dedication to her family and service to her community with the Alumni Career Achievement Award.
